Business travellers are leagally required to have an approved A1 application with them on all business travels. The A1 certificate is an approval from the authorities stating the employee has the right to remain under social security while working in another EU country. 

The A1 application is needed for travels in all European countries, accurate, and up to date.

The application is completed by the company or employee. Compliance forms are a complex task, not easily undertaken by employees. In Sweden or Denmark, the required tasks takes up to 60 min per application once the employee has understood the requirements correctly.

For example, in Denmark, employees traveling for their employer without an A1 certificate risk loosing their national benefits because the employee cannot prove their social security coverage in Denmark. 

Further, the employees can risk loosing their rights for unemployment benefits, child maternity leave etc. if they cannot document social security coverage 12 months back in time.
